Add
Video to PowerPoint
Many people wouldn't consider using video for
powerpoint. But it's possible to use movies in your presentations.
Imagine sitting in worship and watching
rolling clouds, or a shroud blowing in the wind on a cross.
Moving images can add life to your presentations.
They can give people something to reflect on during communion or other
parts of worship. They make great backgrounds too.
PowerPoint supports MPEG and Windows Media
Video (.wmv) file types.
But if you download a free plug-in from
GlobFX, you can also play Flash movies in PowerPoint.
How
to Insert Video into PowerPoint
Open your presentation. Decide which slide you
want the video loop to play on.
On the menu, select
- Insert, then
- Movies
and Sound
Note
that you're given two choices of where to get your video for PowerPoint.
Your choices are:
- Movie
Gallery (animation clips downloaded from Microsoft website)
- File
(stored on your computer)
Most
of the time, you'll choose #2. After making your choice, you're asked
to make another decision.
Do
you want your movie to play automatically or after you click on it?
If
you click, No, then you'll have to click the slide to make
the movie start.
Once
the movie has been inserted, you can resize it to fill the entire
slide or a portion of it.
If
you only wish to fill a portion of the slide, you insert other images
or text.
What
about Text?
The only downside is that you can't add text
and expect it to be visible during playback.
The
movie becomes the top layer during playback and your text is not
seen.
However, you can resize the movie
and add text on the slide background. Then you have to move your
text up in Custom Animation so it's first.
Doing this means you have to click
the slide to make the movie plays. But at least your text can be
seen along with the movie now.
In this example, a
moving flag has been added in the top left corner of the slide. Text
and two other images were also added.
The
custom animation order was set so that our text shows first.
The
movie plays when the slide is clicked. All other images are visible
with the video during playback.
Options
for playback are nearly endless. The video can be resized as desired.
What
about Sound?
Keep
in mind though that when sound is added, a speaker icon appears on
your slide. For the sound to be heard during playback, that speaker
must be visible on the slide somewhere (preferably off in a corner).
